The Elgin valley has delicious white wines, with their climate and the misty mountain elements they produce crisp Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc’s They have ventured into Pinot Noir and some wine farms are able to produce some full bodied red wines.

Iona is the coolest vineyard in the Cape, 420m above sea-level, high above the picturesque Elgin Valley.
Iona is surrounded by the Kogelberg Nature Reserve and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean in the South. In a country where cool sites are precious, these vineyards are like gold — the grapes ripening up to two months later than other Cape vineyards and in perfect balance.
Best suited grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux/Shiraz, Northern Rhone, Sauvignon Blanc
At Oak Valley they focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Classically styled and beautifully crafted. These are distinct, elegant wines, sourced from vineyards in the Elgin Valley. Elgin is a lush plateau completely surrounded by steep mountains forming a natural amphitheatre.
