This tasting program introduces young and old wine estates and wine making styles across the spectrum from light crisp wines to complex and robust red blends. We learn about South African wines as well as how to pair wine with food. Your guide Jim, is South African, he speaks English and Swedish and is a certified tourist guide for all 9 provinces for history, culture and nature as well.

Jim is a garagiste wine maker (Hunneyball Wines in Platters wine guide), is a Cape Wine Academy graduate and member of the South African Sommeliers Association. No matter your experience, he is eager in sharing his knowledge of all aspects of wine enjoyment and production. He is also a Western Cape bird enthusiast and keen photographer. When reading, it’s usually about African history and when he’s not guiding or making wine, you can look for him in remote places or underwater. You can ask him what you like 😉  Jim holds a Professional Driver’s Permit (PrDP) for which medicals and police clearances are mandatory and are renewed every 2 years. He also has the required public transport permits and insurances to transport tourists.


Every tour is tailored upon booking and begins and ends in Stellenbosch.  A wine tasting tour might cover anywhere from three to five wine estates. In the middle of the day we stop for an a-la-carte winelands lunch. We generally spend approximately 45-90 minutes per estate.

Varietals to taste: Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, MCC, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and French-style (Bordeaux and Rhone), dessert wines and Cape blends.

What to Wear

Wine tasting is a casual affair. Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable. In summer, dress to keep cool and in winter a sweater is recommended.


Includes collection and drop off within 20km from Central Stellenbosch. Transport in modern Caravelle. Private English and Swedish speaking certified tourist guide for Nature, Culture, History and Wine.

Curios and other possible purchases are for your own account. Meals +/-  R 120-180 per person. Tasting fees, +/-  R 200 per person for the day. Insurances are the guests own responsibility and not included in the cost.
