Over more than 100 years the golf course at Royal Cape has evolved into what it is today, a classic parkland course that provides a fine test of golf as well as a wonderful playing experience.
The 18-hole golf course was designed to make full use of natural features and hazards such as the vineyards, pine forest and gentle waterways. Its environmental diversity gives the course its unique character.
The walk to the 27th tee takes one through an ecological area that is a riot of colour at certain times of the year. Look out for sunbirds. Definite risk and reward Par 5 with a generously wide Fairway to the advantage of the long hitter. The lateral hazards left and right and the divided Fairway make calculated tactical decisions necessary. The two-tier, well bunkered Green makes a great finish to a splendid golf hole.
The hugely adrenaline-intensive bungee jump from Orlando Towers in Soweto, near Johannesburg, is the first one in the world to be set up between the cooling towers of a power station. A disused power station, of course. Bungee jumping from a working power station would be extreme indeed.
The Club is the product of a merger of the former Royal Johannesburg Golf Club and the former Kensington Golf Club in 1998. Possibly the first merger of its kind in South Africa, it has produced a financially sound club with modernised facilities and a strong and supportive membership base.
